About
SpartaCard

Founded in 2018, SpartaCard Pty Limited is an early stage technology company which focuses on developing and commercialising products and services for the cryptocurrency generation.

SpartaCard is a secure transactional hardware wallet, a ground-breaking product which combines an offline secure cryptocurrency asset storage solution with a transactional card for purchasing goods and services using cryptocurrencies.

Introducing SpartaCard

The first ever secure transactional hardware wallet is here.

Secure hardware wallet

SpartaCard is a ground-breaking product which combines a secure hardware wallet with transactional capabilities. This allows cryptocurrency investors to securely store their assets offline as well as use their cryptocurrencies to purchase goods and services from participating merchants, without the need for a computer or cables.

Merchant app

The SpartaCard ecosystem will include a customer app as well as a merchant app. Each app will be built on both iPhone and Android mobile platforms.

Where can I use my SpartaCard?

Bitcoin is becoming more widely accepted as a payment method around the world. It is estimated that there are in excess of 100,000 merchants globally who currently accept Bitcoin as payment for goods or services, and this number is expected to grow substantially in the coming years.

The key features of the SpartaCard include:
Allows users to safely and securely store their cryptocurrencies offline.
Users can use their cryptocurrencies to purchase goods and services from participating merchants worldwide.
SpartaCard includes an encrypted smart card chipset, a tamper-proof and secure element which stores private and public cryptocurrency keys.
Customers can interact with their SpartaCard using one of two contactless communication methods. NFC allows a “Tap and Go” feature when transacting with merchants, similar to existing debit or credit cards.
Customers must enter a PIN in order to access and authenticate any transactions, providing a much greater level of security.
Our very own patent-pending technology protects visual compromise of keystrokes by scrambling the PIN input sequence.
Protects cryptocurrency assets should the customer experience duress, by activating a lock-down mode and limiting the ability to transfer cryptocurrencies.
Users can recover their cryptocurrencies should their cards become lost or stolen.
If an incorrect PIN is entered on three consecutive attempts, SpartaCard will automatically wipe the contents of the secure element chipset.
Customers can upgrade the SpartaCard firmware as new software releases become available.

Banking-Grade Security

SpartaCard has been designed from the ground up with security as a core consideration.

The product meets a number of security standards and has several security features and services built into the solution. These include:

  • Sensitive information (such as a private key) is only stored in the smart card chipset, which is a secure element of the hardware.
  • Communication between the smart card chipset is managed by a secure applet, which manages the operation flow and determines what type of information can be imported or exported from the secure element
  • Transmission between the applet and the secure element is encrypted
  • User must enter a PIN code in order to use the SpartaCard product.
  • NFC is only ever activated when a correct PIN is entered by the user, providing additional security from NFC scanners.
  • No transactions or money transfers will be authorised without the user entering a correct PIN code
  • If three consecutive incorrect PIN codes are entered, SpartaCard will automatically wipe all data from its secure element
  • Smart card chipset meets CC EAL 4+ security level certification

Frequently Asked Questions

If you have any other questions, please get in touch using the contact form below.

SpartaCard is light, easy to carry, and looks familiar. A far cry from the cold storage you are used to. Keep it in your wallet, purse, or card holder. It's your digital currency, condensed.
With NFC and Bluetooth connectivity, simply tap to connect to our smartphone app and transfer cryptocurrencies in a few seconds. No computer, no cables, no hassle. Just Tap and Go!
The large screen keeps you informed, and makes transactions simple and transparent, wherever you are. It can even display QR codes making transactions even easier
The SpartaCard MSRP will be US$ 149 plus tax (approximately AU$ 195 plus tax).
Built-in encryption keeps everything safe, with banking grade security along with our Patent Pending Pin technologies. A secure element ensures your information stays private.
Your private keys for using your digital currencies are all securely stored using banking-grade technology on the secure element embedded in SpartaCard.
SpartaCard requires the user to enter their unique PIN in order to verify a transaction. This eliminates the risk of NFC scanners stealing your cryptocurrencies, making it more secure than your regular debit or credit card. No PIN? No access. EVER!
Our Patent Pending Panic PIN technology keeps your currency safe even under duress, it's your money and we help you keep it that way. Simply enter a pre-determined Panic Pin and the entire system goes into lock-down mode, only allowing limited funds transfers to take place, without alerting anyone of what’s happening under the hood.
SpartaCard has an industry standard recover process, known as BIP-39 Mnemonics, which recovers lost or damaged hardware wallets. This provides you with peace of mind if your card is ever lost or stolen. It also allows you to import from existing hardware wallets that support the standard, helping you easily and quickly transition to this new and exciting technology
In addition to the hardware security elements, SpartaCard includes two patent-pending security features which have been developed by the Company to improve the security of your information. These include:

PIN Scrambler: When the user needs to physically enter a PIN code on the SpartCard product in order to gain access to a privileged part of the system (such as authorising a transaction payment), SpartaCard will randomly re-assign each character shown on the keys to a different key, whereby each character is re-assigned exactly once-off. SpartaCard's screen will then indicate to the user the re-assigned values of each key, so that the user knows which character on the keys to press in order to enter their actual desired PIN. This ensures that the PIN input sequence is scrambled/different every time a PIN is entered, mitigating the risk of a PIN being recorded by an unauthorised party.

Panic PIN: When a user is forced, under duress or by other means, to log in to an online or mobile application which contains balances and/or methods to transfer financial funds, the SpartaCard app will allow the user to input a “Panic PIN” which, once they have been submitted, puts the system into lockdown. The user will continue to use the app as normal, however the following will occur in the background:

1. Alert a pre-selected person via SMS/email/message service that the user is in some sort of danger and/or under some sort of threat. A geo position can also be sent as part of the notification.

2. The app will appear to allow access to the menus and features as normal, but instead: a. Shows a limited amount of assets available to transfer. b. Restricts the transferring of assets via the application to a maximum amount as described in point 2.a (above).

The Panic PIN will be different to the actual credentials the user enters when they wish to log in to the application and have it function normally (“normal PIN”).

The Panic PIN will be created by the user via the application, after they have logged in with their normal PIN, as part of the application’s optional or mandatory settings/configuration.

The Internet connection used by the application to contact appropriate authorities can be either on the device hosting the application, or via another connected device.
With our new merchant services and mobile app, every SpartaCard becomes a secure transactional card and hardware wallet, all wrapped up in one easy to use product. It just may change the way we think about and use digital currency forever.

Not only can you transfer funds to and from the card by tapping on your phone and using our app, but the merchant app allows you to make payments directly from the card.  You can use your digital currency to purchase any goods or services from participating businesses.

The process is the same as with existing eWallet mobile app solutions. You and the merchant transact between each other on a peer-to-peer basis. The mobile app and SpartCard authorisation system makes transactions simple and seamless, while providing the best possible security for you and your funds:

1.Merchant and Customer agree to a fee in fiat currency for a good or service

2.Merchant and Customer agree to a cryptocurrency transaction value (provided by the SpartaCard exchange services)

3.Merchant provides the Customer with the receipt details on where to send the cryptocurrency, either via a QR code or unique address

4.Customer scans the QR code or enters the unique address in the SpartaCard app

5.Customer taps their SpartaCard on the mobile app

6.SpartaCard displays the transaction value and destination address on the e-ink display screen, and requests confirmation of the transaction

7.Customer confirms the transaction on their SpartaCard, and then taps their SpartaCard on the mobile app to complete the transaction
SpartaCard will work with any merchant which currently accepts Bitcoin transactions. As the SpartaCard merchant community grows, more locations will become available
Bitcoin is becoming more widely accepted as a payment method around the world. It is estimated that there are in excess of 100,000 merchants globally who currently accept Bitcoin as payment for goods or services, and this number is expected to grow substantially in the coming year.

The following link provides a list of some of the companies which currently accept Bitcoin as payment for goods or services (there are many others): https://99bitcoins.com/who-accepts-bitcoins-payment-companies-stores-take-bitcoins/
When Merchants download and register for SpartaCard, they will be added to the SpartaCard directory. The User app will allow customers to search the directory to find merchants who are participating in the SpartaCard ecosystem.
You can choose to have multiple SpartaCards and/or other hardware wallets as they are interchangeable technology. For example, you can choose to have one SpartaCard for everyday transactional use, and a second SpartaCard to store large amounts of cryptocurrencies away safely for longer periods.
Having multiple hardware wallets provides an extra physical level of protection. Also, having multiple hardware wallets is common in the crypto community and is considered by many to be best practice.
Every SpartaCard is field-upgradeable. The charger has card write capabilities. This means that it can be used by customers to perform a firmware upgrade to their SpartaCard product when new features and coin/token support is released.
SpartaCard is the first ever hardware wallet which has transactional capabilities. This feature has never been available before on any hardware wallet.
SpartaCard will support both Crypto-to-Crypto and Crypto-to-Fiat currency transactions. We aim to provide support for as many crypto and fiat currencies as possible, and will confirm the supported currencies list prior to market launch of the SpartaCard product. Transaction and exchange service fees may apply.
The SpartaCard Merchant Service will include an integrated currency exchange service which will allow merchants to receive payments in their local fiat currency.
Whilst this is our first crowdfunding campaign, we've done this all before. Our co-founders have worked together on previous hardware design and manufacture projects, as well as software service projects. They know what it takes to build and commercialise cool and innovative award-winning products!
The hardware product is currently in its final development iteration and is expected to go to first production in the coming months, making the planned October delivery date achievable.
We have secured one of the leading contract manufacturers in the digital smart card space, and have travelled to China for a site visit to meet the team and secure favourable commercial terms for mass production. The contract manufacturer we have selected already supplies digital smart cards to a number of banks and financial institutions, and has over a decade experience in the digital smart card manufacture space.
The component list (ie. Bill of Material or "BOM") has been locked down and the supply chain confirmed, including all long lead time items.
The backend software and infrastructure, as well as the mobile apps, are all currently under development. These are being led by our co-founder CTO who has extensive experience in building these types of solutions for multinational customers. These services are on track to be delivered in time for the October shipping date.
Based on our product development plan and roadmap, we are extremely confident we will meet our delivery timetable and product development objectives.
